Latin name: Spirulina platensis
As known as: Arthrospira platensis
Origin: China
Spirulina platensis
Spirulina platensis is a blue-green alga. It is an easily produced, non-toxic species of Arthrospirabacteria. Spirulina appears to be a promising supplement with potent anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects.
Spirulina is often used as a vegan source of protein and vitamin B12. Dried spirulina contains about 60% (51–71%) protein. It is a complete protein containing all essential amino acids, with slightly lower amounts of methionine, cysteine, and lysine compared to certain animal-derived products.
The spirulina dose is generally between 1gr and 8gr of spirulina per day. Spirulina can be taken once a day, or in smaller doses, multiple times per day.
