A small bone pipe that closes the circle between your breath and the medicine.
Bone Kuripe for Rapé
A rapé applicator is a tool for giving rapé, to yourself or to another. This one is a kuripe, made for self-use, carved from bone. Simple, elegant and robust, handmade with passion and love.
Bone is light and warm in the hand, and it lasts. With use it takes on a soft patina, so over time the kuripe becomes yours, part of your own practice and not just a tool from a shop.
Kuripe or Tepi?
Traditionally, rapé is given with one of two tools. The kuripe is for self-application: its V shape connects your mouth with your nostril, so you blow the rapé yourself. The tepi is a long pipe through which another person, usually the one holding the ceremony, blows the rapé for you.
How to Use a Kuripe
Put a small amount of rapé, about the size of a pea, into the end that goes to the nose. Place the other end in the corner of your mouth and the rapé end gently into one nostril. Breathe in, hold, and give one short, firm blow. Repeat on the other side with the same amount. Then sit still, breathe slowly through the mouth and let the medicine work.
Care: keep it dry and clean it after each use by tapping it out and passing a thin brush or a pipe cleaner through the channel.
